The Incredible Hulk (1982)

Not sure what I was expecting out of this show, but I watched it anyways.

A while ago I read some product reviews for the Hulk boxset which included this and the 90s series. Multiple people said this old show was far superior to the newer one and felt more like Hulk. I haven’t got to the newer series yet so I can’t comment on that, but if they thought this show was good then I reckon it was nostalgia talking.

It’s not awful considering when it was made, but I would avoid this one unless (like me) you are curious. Or maybe if you want something you don’t need to concentrate on to have in the background.

Its main problem is just that it’s incredibly dated. There isn’t much more I’m going to say on it that you couldn’t guess from that statement. The animation is old and cheap, the voice acting is pretty poor and the stories themselves are not unlike what you would find in a 70s comic, aiming at young kids. It can be fun in places but it’s not particularly interesting or stimulating.

The horribly cheesy narration by Stan Lee is pretty awful but I actually liked that he got to be involved… when he wasn’t randomly intruding on a scene to tell me what I was looking at. But then again that’s a problem I have reading older comics too. It gets boring fast.

Although the poor quality could be somewhat endearing. I know I smirked and shook my head just about every time Banner’s shirt grew back without any explanation. Who cares, right?

To be honest, it’s just a daft old cartoon and it would be totally unfair of me to judge it by today’s standards (which I kinda just did). If you plan on watching something like this you have to make allowances. If you do, you might manage to get at least some enjoyment out of it.
